What if the last few meters before the school building were designed in such a way that children could hardly wait to get there? Trails2School makes exactly that possible.
Children who cycle to school get more exercise, are more independent, and often arrive in a better mood. However, the route to school is rarely designed in a way that encourages cycling. The sub-project "Trails2School" of Graubünden Bike under the project management of Claude Balsiger It starts there.
THE IDEA
The project transforms the last 300 to 800 meters before the school building with simple, robust trail elements: rollers, berms, and balance sections. It requires little effort, but has a noticeable effect. Children who have ridden this path once want to ride it again.
Trails2School is a sub-project of Graubünden Bike and was developed based on international examples, local workshops, and an analysis of the spatial situation in the canton of Graubünden. The result is a flexible model that can be adapted to different situations: directly in front of the school building, in the schoolyard, or along the school route.

Cycling culture doesn't begin with the first bike tour.
It begins with children experiencing the bicycle as a natural means of transportation. Trails2School creates precisely this foundation: practical spaces for movement in the village that children can use daily.

Trails2School is looking for motivated municipalities and schools in the canton of Graubünden that would like to evaluate and help shape the project locally. Large resources are not required, but rather openness and local commitment.
Whether teacher, community employee, parent or interested party: anyone who feels addressed is welcome.
Participating municipalities receive support in all phases: from the initial presentation and analysis of the current situation to implementation. The scope and intensity of this support are tailored to local resources.
