Graubünden Bike: How participation makes a difference

Discover how Graubünden Bike is strengthening bike tourism in Graubünden. Agile, participatory projects promote cycling experiences for locals and visitors.

Written BY

The Graubünden Bike project is dynamic. Not only because of the large number of sub-projects or the holistic strategy, but also because of its participatory methodology. The participants meet every three months for a OKR Workshop, in order to define desired changes, review progress and adjust measures. This is complemented by a annual Open Space.

WHAT IS THE OKR METHOD AND HOW IS IT USED?

OKR stands for Objectives & Key Results. The method helps to formulate clear target states and define corresponding indicators. At Graubünden Bike, this is being taken over. The sub-project managers are independently responsible for the implementation of their projects.. Their progress is shared and reviewed in the OKRs. This creates transparency. Responsibility is shared, and everyone knows what needs to be achieved and what their own contribution to the overall project is.

Open Space Participation

WHAT IS OPEN SPACE?

The Open Space provides all participants with an open forum to contribute ideas, experiences, and questions. Everyone can introduce topics and actively shape the agenda. This allows for the exploration of perspectives and the development of solutions that are currently relevant to the overall system. The Open Space strengthens connections and collaborative learning, and creates a foundation for the implementation of relevant and feasible sub-projects.

PARTICIPATION THAT UNLEASHES AN IMPACT

At Graubünden Bike, participation means more than just sharing information. All partners are invited to take responsibility and contribute their own ideas. Decisions are made through dialogue. This approach ensures that sub-projects can respond flexibly to local needs.

Whether Las Ciclistas, Bike Skill Loops or kulTOUR Graubünden – every project benefits from direct participation and unfolds its impact in its own context.

WHY WE CHOOSED THIS METHODOLOGY

The combination of OKR and Open Space It creates a dynamic system in which goals are pursued in a structured way, responsibility is distributed, and at the same time there is room for creativity. This is how Graubünden Bike connects. long-term strategy with short-term implementation, enables rapid implementation and a shared stance.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Graubünden Bike demonstrates how participatory methods can work hand in hand with clear goals. The agile, open, and inclusive approach creates relevant results. At the same time, it strengthens connections that continue even after the completion of individual sub-projects, thus strengthening Graubünden in the long term.

The agile, participatory approach produces visible results for the region, which will strengthen Graubünden's attractiveness as a nature metropolis in the long term.
