Project description:

The Master Plan 1.0 and 2.0

In Lenzerheide and the surrounding communities of Vaz/Obervaz and Churwalden, the aim was to create a modern and sustainable trail network for mountain bikers and hikers. Given the increasing popularity of mountain biking and the growing number of visitors, the existing trails were reaching their capacity limits, which made it clear that the trail network needed to be redesigned and untangled.

ALLEGRA was able to participate in the planning and implementation of this master plan (including user monitoring). As part of this master plan, several new trails were designed and built and existing trails were redesigned to meet the needs of experienced mountain bikers and to promote the coexistence of hikers and bikers.

New trails and their special features:

  • Flowtrail Hörnli Arosa: A 7.3 km long bike trail, the longest in Switzerland, was built by two teams in just over three months. The trail is completely integrated into the natural terrain, with the embankments being closed again with the previously removed vegetation scar. The construction was carried out entirely from locally available earth and stones.
  • Great White: A 2.7 km long single trail on the Weisshorn, categorised as a black trail and suitable for experienced bikers. Despite challenging conditions, the trail is designed to provide a natural flow feeling. The sustainable construction with a deep trail gradient means that maintenance costs are minimal.
  • Enduro Trail Urdenfürggli: This mountain bike trail was built at an altitude of 2600 m through alpine terrain and is an important part of the popular circuit from Lenzerheide to Arosa and back. The construction was carried out with a 1.8t excavator and under the supervision of two skilled workers to ensure the most natural integration into the environment possible.
  • Mountain bike trail Parpaner Rothorn: Another user-guided mountain bike trail built in a rocky and stony terrain without blasting. Here too, the construction was carried out exclusively from locally available resources, leaving the sensitive vegetation largely undamaged.
  • Dark Side of the Moon: Planning and construction of a mountain bike trail for user guidance on the Parpaner Rothorn in Lenzerheide. The mountain bike trail was built with a 1.8t excavator and a skilled worker trail for manual work. In the very stony, rocky terrain, the use of blasting was completely avoided due to the good routing. The trail was built entirely from locally available earth and stones. The sensitive vegetation in the high alpine area could be easily moved with the excavator and was only slightly affected.
  • Mountain bike trail Parpaner Rothorn: Another user-guided mountain bike trail built in a rocky and stony terrain without blasting. Here too, the construction was carried out exclusively from locally available resources, leaving the sensitive vegetation largely undamaged.
  • Other: Scalottas Nord (Singletrail/Enduro
  • Top Fops (single trail/enduro), Scalottas to Junehütte (single trail/enduro), The Pipe (single trail/enduro), Urdenfürggli incl. Twister (single trail/enduro), maintenance of Älplisee trail and disentanglement of Schwellisee, expansion/maintenance of skill/trail center valley station Rothorn Lenzerheide.
