Project description: Bikepark Bergheim

In Bergheim near Salzburg, an extraordinary project has emerged in recent months: a previously unused, flat meadow in an urban area has been transformed into a versatile skill center that combines mountain biking, action, and inclusion: the Bergheim Bike Park.

From a flat meadow to a unique feature with lots of elevation!

Based on the inspection of the bike park planned and built by ALLEGRA together with the local bike club BikeInfection BikeBaseBruck and the vision of the Bergheim Tourist Association under the leadership of Innovator and Chairman Franz Gmachl As well as the requirements of a bike area that is as inclusive as possible, two idea plans were developed as a starting point.

Together, this resulted in the vision of making the site a truly unique selling point for the region:

A hill approximately 8 to 9 meters high is now visible from afar and can be reached from both directions via an uphill trail. This allows the eight trails, each up to 90 meters long, and three jump lines of all difficulty levels to be combined in new and individual ways. Furthermore, the pump tracks can be creatively integrated into the loops. This ensures an extremely high level of variety for users in such a small area. Progression is offered from beginner to pro. And: This course concept also enables spectacular eliminator or head-to-head XC races with multiple loops, for example, and increases the added value for Bergheim and its event and catering industries.

The northern area houses the swimming pool and a beautifully landscaped children's playground. Directly opposite, we've integrated the kids' and wheelchair pump track, as well as the starting area for the very easy green EasyLoop (also suitable for sports wheelchairs), which runs around the earth mound. We hope this will get many parents sweating as their kids on balance bikes, 2- and 3-wheelers chase each other, and motivate them to take their bikes further. The park is therefore perfect for a first bike park experience, as well as a workout and training ground for experienced shredders. It thus promotes the inclusion of young and old, new and experienced, sharing knowledge, learning from the more experienced, and learning from the questions and behavior of the less experienced. We look forward to kids on all bikes and to the Bergheim Bike Park becoming a meeting place with seemingly endless great opportunities for biking, making friends, and improving for all generations and levels.

Our services in the project

To make this vision a reality, ALLEGRA Trails Austria, under the project management of Luca Schneider and Christian Posch, provided the following services for the implementation of the Bergheim Bike Park:

  • sightseeing and Know-how transfer to the project planned by ALLEGRA and implemented jointly with the BikeInfection association BIKE BASE BRUC
  • Creation of two idea plans based on preliminary customer discussions, defined target groups and the needs of local bike clubs
  • Selection and Deepening the preferred idea planning
  • Support with the Funding submissions for leaders and sports venues (preparation of documents and coordination, presentations and joint meetings before committees)
  • Creation of detailed design and cost estimate
  • Implementation and submission planning, cooperation with landscape office for ecological measures for greening, tree and shrub growth, etc.
  • cooperation in the Pump track planning with the Alliance ASE GmbH: barrier-free children's track & main pump track with optional jump line
  • Creation of the Specifications for the tender
  • Contact person in the procurement procedure
  • Construction supervision during implementation

Diversity for every target group

The Bergheim Bike Park is designed to offer something for all ages and skill levels. From balance bike riders to beginners to advanced mountain bikers – everyone will find something they like here.

The unique bike park is perfectly embedded, in addition to the flow trails that start from the approximately 9 meter high hill, there is:

  • a large pump track
  • a separate children's pump track for the little ones
  • Jumplines in different difficulty levels
  • Wallrides, Northshore elements and wooden structures
  • a rock garden for technical driving

The facility offers a unique combination of bike playground, training area, and action – right next to the existing sports facilities with swimming pool, tennis courts, and soccer fields.

Special features & challenges

Particular attention was paid to inclusion and accessibility. The surrounding trail, the green trail, and the small pump track are designed to be wheelchair accessible. This innovative concept also impressed funding agencies: The project was supported and co-financed through Leader funding. Small challenges were overcome with well-thought-out solutions: For example, measures were implemented to offset the impact on nature and targeted water management to ensure the long-term and sustainable preservation of the site.

Project period & opening

The idea first emerged in spring 2024. In November, work began on piling up the hill, and construction began on May 21, 2025. After an intensive construction period and creative implementation, the site is now being finalized: landscaping, trees are being planted, and fences, benches, and signage are being added. The official opening of the Bergheim Bike Park is planned for October 2025.

Our conclusion

The Bergheim Bike Park is a place of encounter, exercise, and excitement – a large playground for young and old, combining urban space with sporting diversity and sending a strong signal for innovative leisure activities.
