Project description – Trail Center Ounasvaara

The Trail Center includes four different trails, supplemented by selected VELO PARK-Elements. Here, under the direction of Jonne and the ALLEGRA Nordics Trail Crew, a versatile space for biking, playing, and exploring has been created. The focus is on providing accessible options for children while simultaneously offering opportunities for further development well into adulthood. Children as young as three can gain their first riding experience here, while older users can discover more challenging lines and features.

The trails are intentionally designed to be varied. Different levels of difficulty, flowing routes, and playful features invite experimentation and allow riders to gradually build their skills and confidence. The trail center is not intended as a closed practice area, but rather as an open space for movement that sparks curiosity and encourages repeated use.

Located in the Ounasvaara area, the Trail Center is part of a larger trail network. Cross-country and downhill routes are in the immediate vicinity, easily incorporated into a ride. It's all the more surprising, then, how such a diverse and vibrant offering could emerge on a small, previously neglected plot of land. The project demonstrates how, with precise planning and a keen understanding of user needs, a high-quality, long-term usable biking hub can be created even in a limited space.

Our conclusion: A small, unused open space can bring about so much change! Ideally used, it offers a place for experiences and memories for all generations.

Mountain bike master plan: The answer to the winter question

Moving away from winter dependency – towards year-round tourism: Alpine tourism is at a turning point.

Moving away from winter dependency and towards year-round tourism: Alpine tourism is facing a fundamental transformation. Climate change and new guest expectations demand a rethink. Strategies like the "Snow Compass" show concrete ways in which destinations can secure their future. Mountain biking tourism, in particular, is developing into a key growth driver with high added value and great potential for the summer and shoulder seasons.
