Period2021 and 2021

Project description:

The tourism association “Mühlviertler Alm Freistadt” looks after 32 communities – including Alberndorf and Gallneukirchen. In cooperation with the ALLEGRA Team in Austria A new action plan for cycling in the future was developed.

In spring 2021, we were able to hold several workshops with important stakeholders to subsequently develop a master plan for the Mühlviertel. Together with mountain bikers, hunters, foresters, riders and companies from the 32 TVB communities, we analyzed the potential of BikeSPort in the Mühlviertler Alm Freistadt tourism association area. This sport as a form of exercise has both opportunities and risks that need to be recognized as best as possible within the framework of the workshops and beyond and used positively. Our Project Manager Dominik was also out and about in the field to get an overview of the existing network of paths and to identify potential.

In order to develop a coherent mountain bike offer that is in keeping with the spirit of the times and adapted to the region, the results of the potential analysis and a derived catalogue of measures were recently presented to all TVB communities and the associated local MTB experts at three evening events.

“We have set ourselves the long-term goal of creating an attractive mountain bike offer for guests and locals, in the area of built routes and comprehensive circular tours, in coordination with landowners, hunting, forestry, equestrian associations and agriculture!”, says Stefan Wunderle, Managing Director of the Mühlviertler Alm Freistadt Tourism Association.

Between Maria Alm and Hinterthal: Seven kilometers of touring fun – two new trails – one destination

What do you do when a popular biking area borders sensitive refuges – and at the same time, two places need to be better connected for tourism? The answer: a carefully planned infrastructure that protects nature and facilitates recreation. Five years of work have created a 7.3 km mountain bike connection between Maria Alm and Hinterthal with approximately 300 meters of elevation gain, as well as two new single trails – well-thought-out, close to nature, and future-oriented.

Trail maintenance in Armenia: Sharing knowledge and preserving trails

Whether it's a hiking trail, bike trail, or shared trail: A functioning route requires more than construction – it requires maintenance. In Armenia, we trained local crews to enable long-lasting, low-maintenance, and environmentally friendly infrastructure. As ALLEGRA, we have been offering such courses for years: in Switzerland, Scandinavia, and around the world. Because only those who understand how a trail works can maintain it.

Trail maintenance courses with ALLEGRA: Maintaining trails instead of just building them

Trail construction doesn't end with the final shaping day—that's when the trail really begins to liven up. But even decades-old trails need regular maintenance. The history of coexistence

How did we get to the point where mountain bikers, hikers, and cows share the same trail? The history of coexistence in the Swiss Alps is older—and more exciting—than many people think. Graubünden is playing a pioneering role with Fairtrail, demonstrating how shared travel works: with respect, dialogue, and a pioneering spirit.
