Funding 2025-2026 for "Liveable and Sustainable Places"

We are looking for innovative projects related to sustainable planning, design and use of living spaces by private and public institutions.

SHORTLY

Private and public institutions throughout Switzerland can still September 30, 2025 Submit innovative projects related to sustainable planning, design, and use of living spaces. What's special about this project: We're looking for inspiring ideas that are new, concrete, and local, and can also be transferred to other regions and contexts.

The three dimensions of sustainability should be considered in projects in the most balanced and integrated way possible, strengthening them in everyday life. The term "place" is, incidentally, very broad: It can refer to all physical spaces shaped by human activities and experiences, both built structures and spaces in between – cities, neighborhoods, streets, buildings, halls, spaces inside and outside settlements, but shaped in some way by humans.

DEADLINES & PERIOD

The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2025
Project selection will take place at the end of the year
Projects start in early 2026
Workshop participation of the winners on March 3 and November 24, 2026

FUNDING

Maximum CHF 20,000 per project. The funding contribution may not exceed 50% of the budgeted project costs – therefore, own financial resources must be guaranteed.

WHO SUPPORTS and IS SUPPORTED?

The program is funded by the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) together with the Federal Office of Culture (BAK).

Public bodies (cantons, municipalities, public institutions), private bodies or civil society organizations in Switzerland.
Projects by individuals and international projects are excluded.

WHAT IS SUPPORTED?

  1. Promoting sustainable lifestyles through livable design of settlements, neighborhoods, buildings, open and outdoor spaces. Projects that promote social cohesion, health, inclusion, and the removal of barriers.
How about a modular pump track in the town center, in the schoolyard, or next to the sidewalks? All roller sports equipment, all generations, all social classes can roll, laugh, meet, help, learn, improve, exercise, work on endurance, fitness, and dexterity, become safer, and so on...!
  2. Increasing sustainability in the design and long-term use of the habitat.
A modular pump track is a sustainable, diverse, and innovative solution with addictive appeal. Thanks to its modular design, the layout can be changed, expanded, or rebuilt at any time, allowing the track to be moved from one neighborhood to another, for example. An average of 3,000 laps are completed daily. The waves are also weatherproof and, thanks to high-quality materials and construction, remain in top condition even after years of use, requiring little maintenance.
  3. Innovative approaches to site-specific planning and use projects.
The waves can be used for recreational purposes, but also for school lessons, bike coaching, workshops, events, or pump track races. Everyone feels welcome here, and they create spaces for socializing: a greater sense of community right on your doorstep. The construction can also be done jointly with the local community; an opening event, lap counters, and regular workshops will ensure that the pump track will soon become an integral part of the community.

That doesn't quite fit your project? Good news: There are other funding opportunities available! Is your community implementing more measures to encourage its residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle? Apply for the "Healthy Community / Healthy City" award.

The history of coexistence

How did we get to the point where mountain bikers, hikers, and cows share the same trail? The history of coexistence in the Swiss Alps is older—and more exciting—than many people think. Graubünden is playing a pioneering role with Fairtrail, demonstrating how shared travel works: with respect, dialogue, and a pioneering spirit.

Fairtrail is launching a new campaign – with mountain bike star Nino Schurter as ambassador. Together with ALLEGRA as project manager, the project sends a strong message for more consideration on Graubünden's trails.

The Bikepark Moléson is growing

Since September 2024, the Moléson Bike Park has offered two varied flow trails for all skill levels – fluid, playful, and with Alpine panoramas. A natural, red enduro trail for technically skilled riders will follow in 2025.

In the flow through the Bike Park Moleson

The flow trails at Moléson Bike Park offer playful riding fun for every level – Modzon with plenty of jumps, Poya a bit more technical and twisty. Perfect for repeated descents and varied lines.

Coexistence – peaceful coexistence on our paths

How can we achieve peaceful coexistence among all stakeholders and user groups on non-motorized transport routes? We didn't invent coexistence, but we're demonstrating our path here to best ensure the interests of all stakeholders. For truly lived coexistence.
